Boy, 5 years in the making… it all started back in 2012 when from Richmond, VA Matthew E. White gives me a call to see if I would be interested in recording with his outfit aka Spacebomb. Working with Spacebomb included at our disposal – horn players, strings, choir, and only the finest backing band – Cameron Ralston on bass guitar, Pinson Chanselle on drums and Matt himself on guitar. At the time we also recorded back to back (actually back and forth) Matthew E. White’s “Big Inner” (catch the name play?) which came out initially on Spacebomb, then quickly snatched up by Domino.
It was an amazing experience to work with these cats, all wonderful folks and just off the hook musicians. Check out the incredible trumpet and trombone by Bob Miller and Bryan Hooten, respectively.
Fast forward 4 years to 2016 and I’m having breakfast outside at a diner in Brighton, England with Simon Raymonde the label head of Bella Union and telling him about this album which I had been remixing and re-singing and doing some final dress-ups for. From that point until now it seems like a blur, Randy Walker designed this fabulous album cover – it’s in my grubby mitts today, pressed on luscious, red vinyl (and of course available as well on CD and digitally) – find your local, record shop! With gratitude I humbly announce this the second Bella Union release, a decided departure from the country/soul of Introducing.
Already some great press on “Out Her Space.”
